Kim Kardashian, the reality star, businesswoman, podcaster, and cultural icon, has officially signed to appear in American Horror Story (AHS) on FX’s forthcoming 12th season. She is taking a part that was created exclusively for her.
She co-stars with returning AHS actress Emma Roberts in the episode, which marks the first time the show has had a single writer take on both the writing and show-running duties.
AHS co-creator Ryan Murphy said that Kim is among the world’s brightest television personalities, and they are happy to bring her into the American Horror Story family. He and Emma “are thrilled to work with such a formidable cultural icon.”
In addition to being good friends, Murphy and Kardashian have a mutual admiration for Kardashian’s successful hosting of Saturday Night Live in 2021. This summer, they started brainstorming ideas for her breakout role on the small screen. Although the specifics of Kardashian and Roberts’ participation remain under wraps, the writing was on the wall when Kardashian’s eighth-most-followed Instagram account posted cryptic hints.
The forthcoming book Delicate Condition by Danielle Valentine inspired this season, named Delicate. Released in August by Sourcebooks Landmark, the story follows a woman who becomes convinced that a demonic entity is going to tremendous efforts to prevent her pregnancy from ever happening. Andrea Bartz’s Delicate Condition has been called “the feminist update to Rosemary’s Baby we all needed” in a cover blurb.
Although Kardashian has dabbled in acting previously, this will be her most significant role. A-list actors in roles are hardly out of AHS’s comfort zone. Since hiring Jessica Lange in the first season, the show has featured a rotating door of A-list talent, most notably Lady Gaga, who made her acting debut in the fifth season after only appearing in her music videos.
By making this decision, Kardashian is also strengthening her ties to Disney, with whom she and her family have been working since the debut of their reality program The Kardashians on Hulu a year ago.
