An Arizona woman named Melody Felicano Johnson (40) has entered a guilty plea to accusations that she tried to poison her estranged spouse, a member of the United States Air Force, by pouring bleach into his coffee.
Johnson has entered a guilty plea for trying to kill the airman by poisoning.
A concealed camera caught her in the act. According to a report, she faces two poisoning-related charges, and prosecutors have recommended a two-year jail term, with the possibility of a further four-year extension.
The spouse was alerted to a strange taste in his coffee. He tested his coffee with pool chemical test strips since he had concerns, and the results showed a high chlorine level.
According to the news source, a covert camera he installed caught Johnson putting bleach into his coffee maker. The deed came to light during their continuing divorce procedures, which began in March 2023 while the airman was deployed in Germany.
Despite the inconsistent dates and locations, the video evidence clearly shows Johnson poisoning the coffee. In one video on July 16, 2023, she can be seen putting bleach from a larger container into a smaller bottle before going to the coffee maker. A news source mentioned a video dated July 5th that showed her doing the same thing.
According to court records, the victim claimed that Johnson was aware that he would set his coffee machine overnight to switch it on in the morning. He decided he wouldn’t file a report while in Germany, so he stopped drinking coffee and only pretended to.
Johnson amended her plea from not guilty to guilty after her arrest on July 18.
She was ordered jailed at the Pima County Jail on a $250,000 bail. Johnson was ruled a flight risk because the prosecution informed the court that she just purchased a home in the Philippines, so a hefty bail was required.
Johnson is next due at court for sentencing on May 10th.
