On Wednesday, the Biden reelection campaign revealed its national advisory board, the group of campaign surrogates who will travel the country fundraising and campaigning for Biden’s reelection, the Associated Press reported.
The campaign advisory board is made up of 50 prominent Democrats both from Congress and from the states and includes three of Joe Biden’s primary rivals from 2020 – Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey, Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, and Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota.
Perhaps as a way to keep him from challenging the president, California Governor Gavin Newsom is also on the advisory board, along with fellow Democrat Governors JB Pritzker of Illinois, Phil Murphy of New Jersey, and Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania.
The board also includes rising progressive House member Maxwell Frost of Florida and Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock.
The campaign’s national advisory board will be chaired by former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
According to the Biden campaign, the members of the advisory board will tap their network of donors to raise money in support of President Biden’s reelection. They will also act as Biden surrogates during the campaign, making media and campaign appearances as Biden hides in the basement.
More members are expected to be added to the advisory board as the campaign progresses.
Campaign spokesman Kevin Munoz described the board as “passionate and compelling leaders” who are “representative of the broad, diverse coalition of voters” who helped Joe Biden win in 2020. Munoz added that the army of surrogates will help defeat “the MAGA extremist agenda.”
According to the Associated Press, the biggest challenge facing the campaign’s surrogates will be allaying the public’s concern about Biden’s age. Biden won in 2020 by cobbling together young voters, minorities, moderates, and women. But four years later, the majority in those groups believe the 80-year-old Biden is simply too old to be president for another 4 years.
