X’s SF Headquarters to Permanently Close on Sept. 13, Sources Reveal

Less than two months after announcing that it would be relocating to Texas, the X team has revealed its moving date.

The social media platform, owned by billionaire Elon Musk since 2022, will close its San Francisco, California headquarters on Friday September 13. News of the change came from an anonymous insider, who shared with news outlets that the company told employees about the change on Thursday August 28.

South Park Avenue has been the home of the social media business—founded in 2006—for nearly 20 years, even as new management left it in the hands of the entrepreneur. Although it had already been reported that the company would relocate its headquarters this year, workers were not told prior to last week about the specific moving date.

In mid-July, it was reported that Musk could no longer take the liberal ideologies of the state of California, where notoriously left-wing Gov. Gavin Newsom reigns. At the time, he described a recently enacted law related to gender ideology as “the final straw” which led him to decide to move his company.

The law in question forbids school districts from mandating parents be informed if their children request to be called by pronouns not matching their biological sex while at school. Like many citizens concerned about a liberal takeover, Musk took a stand. He declared that both the headquarters of X and Space X would relocate to the Lone Star State.

The social media company will soon reside in Austin while the billionaire’s space project will be headquartered in Starbase. At the time, Musk said that he “made it clear” to the governor last summer that such radical legislation “would force” both businesses and families to flee California in order to “protect their children.”

“Gangs of violent drug addicts” was another complaint from the billionaire seeking a new location for his businesses. He added that employees were obliged to avoid these gangs simply to “get in and out of the building” in San Francisco. Musk has also revealed that he will reside in Texas—a place of no personal income state taxes—from where he used to live in California.
