(PresidentialWire.com)- The White House announced on Thursday that federal contractors will have an additional month to comply with the President’s vaccine mandate.
The extension of the deadline was announced when the White House unveiled the OSHA rule for private businesses with more than 100 employees. A senior administration official told reporters that to make compliance easier, the White House will use the same deadline for all vaccine mandates issued by the administration to be consistent across the board.
In the President’s initial executive order from September, federal contractors were told they had until December 8 to get their employees vaccinated. But to make the deadline consistent with the OSHA mandate, contractors now have until January 4, 2022.
According to the administration official, federal contractors’ employees will need to receive their final vaccine dose by that date or risk penalties.
The official, however, urged contractors to get their employees vaccinated long before the deadline, telling reporters that there was no reason to wait and workers should get vaccinated “as quickly as possible” since that is the “path out of this pandemic.”
Of course, even vaccinated people can contract and spread COVID. But apparently, the White House forgot all about that.
According to guidance issued by the Safer Federal Workforce Task Force, it will be up to each federal contractor to determine the best enforcement strategy for its employees who refuse to get vaccinated by January 4. Though the administration recommends contractors follow the enforcement model established for federal employees.
Federal agencies will have the right to deny a non-vaccinated contractor employee from entering a federal workplace.
Any contractor that willfully refuses to comply with the mandate could face “significant actions” by the contracting agency – including termination of its contract. However, a contractor making a good-faith effort to comply can receive collaboration assistance from the agency contracting officer.
President Biden’s unlawful vaccine mandates are already facing several legal challenges.
