(PresidentialWire.com)- An American Navy nuclear engineer and his wife have been charged with selling off secret information about U.S. nuclear submarined to an undercover FBI agent who was posing as a foreign operative. The shocking news was revealed by the Justice Department on Sunday, and in a completely unsurprising turn of events, the couple had a Black Lives Matter sign in the yard.
A criminal complaint outlined the espionage charges Jonathan and Diana Toebbe are now facing. The pair, aged 42 and 45, are accused of selling information to a representative of a foreign power for the last two years.
In April of last year, Toebbe sold a package of U.S. Navy documents to a foreign government and write that he would be interested in selling more information, including sensitive information about our Virginia-class nuclear submarine reactors.
The foreign agent who did receive the information, who has not been named and nor has the country the person represented, sat o the information before eventually turning the documents over to the United States in December of last year, right after the presidential election.
Toebbe was arrested over the weekend in West Virginia along with his teacher wife. The Department of Justice said that he had left a memory card full of sensitive information at a “dead drop” point in the state, as agreed with the undercover FBI agent.
Toebbe previously worked in the office of the chief of naval operations for 15 months and also worked on naval nuclear propulsion technology from 2012. He worked on secret technological projects that focused on reducing the vibrations and noise produced by nuclear submarines – a key part of preventing submarines from being tracked by enemies.
If you take a look at this report by The Daily Mail, you’ll see a picture of his home. And you’ll see the Black Lives Matter sign in the front.
