(PresidentialWire.com)- On Saturday, President Trump released a brief, but scathing statement: “Where’s Durham – what ever happened to the Durham report?”
In the waning months of the Trump Administration, Attorney General William Barr appointed US attorney John Durham as special counsel to probe the origins of the RussiaGate investigation that began in the summer of 2016.
While Durham had already been investigating the spying on the Trump campaign and presidency as well as the genesis of the “Russian Collusion” hoax (known as “Crossfire Hurricane”) since May 2019, the purpose of appointing him special counsel was to shield his investigation from interference by the incoming Biden Administration.
But in the two years since Durham began his investigation only one person has been charged with a crime related to “Crossfire Hurricane.” That person, Kevin Clinesmith, pleaded guilty in August to doctoring evidence on a FISA warrant against Carter Page.
Clinesmith was given probation.
Meanwhile dozens of Americans who trespassed on the Capitol during the January 6 melee are being held without bail pending trial.
Since his appointment as Special Counsel, Durham has not indicted anyone for anything.
Saturday’s statement from Trump isn’t the first regarding the Durham investigation. Back in March he also asked “Where’s Durham?” – wondering “Is he a living, breathing human being?”
A poll conducted in April revealed that 67% of Americans were completely unaware of the Durham Special Counsel – no doubt in large part because, unlike the Mueller Investigation, the news media is not giving Special Counsel Durham wall-to-wall coverage.
But is Durham ignoring it as well?
The last reported news surrounding the Special Counsel investigation was in mid-April when the New York Times reported that Durham had issued subpoenas to the Qatar-funded Brookings Institute for records of Igor Danchenko’s work there.
Danchenko was the primary sub-source for the widely debunked Steele Dossier.
In interviews with the FBI in early 2017, Danchenko disavowed the veracity of the information he provided to Steele. Despite this, in April and June of 2017 the FBI issued two additional FISA renewals based on the dossier.
While it is possible Durham is quietly working under the radar, the absence of any results of an investigation are no doubt leading Mr. Trump and many others to believe there’s no one there.
