Days after pop singer Taylor Swift appeared to be back in the good favor of her bestie Brittany Mahomes, the two are making headlines once again over the renewal of a friendship fallout.
The two women sat apart for the second week in a row on Sunday September 15, when they attended the latest game of the Kansas City Chiefs NFL team. Swift is famously dating tight end Travis Kelce and Mahomes is married to the team’s quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.
The friendship between the two ladies has been well documented by the media, which highlights how well they seemed to get along. That is, until politics threatened to tear their friendship apart. An initial rift was suspected after Mahomes liked social media posts from Donald Trump.
Following the September 10 presidential debate between the two nominees, Swift officially endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris—and another apparent rift is showing on the horizon. The two were back together and in good spirits at the US Open finals last weekend, but then they were spotted sitting away from one another for two consecutive weeks at the Chiefs games.
The second suspected rift comes after sources revealed that Swift and Mahomes recognized that they “have different views” when it comes to politics and had made a “pact” to avoid the subject and focus on “respect” for one another instead. Their attendance at the tennis finals were thought to dispel rumors that their friendship had ended.
On Sunday September 15, Trump took to social media to express that he “hate[s] Taylor Swift.” This was his second reaction to the singer’s endorsement of Harris. He previously said Swift would likely “pay a price” for it “in the marketplace.” During a Wednesday September 11 interview, one day after the presidential debate, Trump declared that he “like[s] Mrs. Mahomes much better” than Swift.
Upon endorsing Harris—which she did immediately following the debate—the singer described the Democratic nominee as “steady-handed” and a “gifted leader.” She added her belief that Harris would lead the country with “calm” rather than “chaos.”
