Recent Surge in Hospital Casualties

Over the past 48 hours, Gaza’s Ministry of Health confirmed that hospitals received the bodies of 95 people and treated 304 injured, following a spike in Israeli air and ground strikes. Simultaneously, Associated Press reported that five Palestinians were killed near an aid distribution site managed by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, fueling fears that supposedly safe zones are becoming new flashpoints.

Aid Hubs as Flashpoints

Eyewitness accounts and humanitarian workers describe scenes of panic and bloodshed at newly declared aid corridors. One incident involved Reem Zeidan, a mother of six, who was shot dead while attempting to collect food. Her children watched as their mother died in a crowd of desperate civilians. Following the incident, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation suspended operations for reevaluation, as more observers claim these sites pose deadly risks rather than relief.

Hospitals Under Siege

The Gaza healthcare system, already stretched thin, suffered another blow in May when Israeli strikes targeted a hospital compound during the assassination of Hamas leader Muḥammad Sinwār. The attack on the Gaza European Hospital killed at least 28 people and injured dozens more, including medical staff and civilians.

A United Nations inquiry later concluded that repeated strikes on medical infrastructure may amount to genocidal acts, particularly targeting reproductive and emergency care facilities.

Healthcare System Collapse

Since the war began in October 2023, roughly 55,000 Palestinians have died, and Gaza’s health system is in total disarray. Only 25 to 30 percent of hospitals remain partially operational. The World Health Organization and other international bodies continue to warn of looming epidemics, famine, and complete system collapse as a result of siege tactics and continued strikes on infrastructure.

As the humanitarian crisis worsens, international agencies and human rights groups are urgently calling for medical evacuation corridors and guarantees of safety for healthcare providers—demands that remain unmet amid escalating hostilities.
