(PresidentialWire.com)- Far-left House Speaker Nancy Pelosi hasn’t given up on her dream of a 9/11-style commission to investigate the January 6 riots, in hopes of “proving” that former President Donald Trump incited it, or that Republicans were responsible for what she considers a terrorist attack on par with the September 11 tragedy.
Last week, Speaker Pelosi floated a new proposal to Republicans that would evenly split the membership of a panel investigating the riot between the two parties – but she failed to provide any good reason why such a proposal should even be considered when Democrats refuse to consider far-left riots, which caused $2 billion in damage last year, as terrorism.
Pelosi initially proposed a commission in February that would have seven Democrats and four Republicans, to “conduct an investigation of the relevant facts and circumstances relating to the domestic terrorist attack on the Capitol.”
The details of Pelosi’s newest proposal have come to light, with a letter sent last week to colleagues describing how she had made an offer to Republicans. “We are determined to seek the truth,” she said in the letter, alluding once again to her claim that the riots were a violent insurrection inspired by former President Donald Trump.
It’s the conspiracy theory she and other Congressional Democrats used to try and impeach the former president for a second time, and which was proven to be a conspiracy theory during the subsequent trial.
A source familiar with Pelosi’s latest proposal told the press that it would involve a commission evenly split between the Republicans and Democrats – something that wasn’t already on the cards – similar to the 9/11-style panel from over 15 years ago.
However, even with an even split, it would give the Democrats an opportunity to claim authority over the issue and insist that it was the Republicans’ fault.
Pelosi also hasn’t provided any explanation of what she thinks such a commission would achieve, with Republicans and Democrats split on the issue. Democrats have long considered the tragic violent riots, which were attended by both far-left and far-right extremists – and even a CNN reporter. A commission would allow the Democrats to revive the story that the Republicans were responsible for inciting violence and potentially use it as a tool in the upcoming 2022 midterm elections.
So it’s not wonder that Pelosi isn’t giving up.
The first draft of a bill to establish the commission didn’t initially mention Trump, but Republicans criticized how broad the investigation would be, and objected to a number of claims in the bill that white supremacy is one of the biggest threats to domestic security today.
Pelosi won’t give this up…but so far, it doesn’t look like the Republicans want to play ball on this highly partisan plan.
