(PresidentialWire.com)- Even though former Vice President Mike Pence and former President Donald Trump had a falling out over their responses to the 2020 presidential election and well-documented instances of fraud and misconduct, Republicans will no doubt be wishing the former vice president well as he recovers from a pacemaker implant procedure.
The office for the former vice president announced on Thursday that he had been fitted with a pacemaker device.
“I am grateful for the swift professionalism and care of the outstanding doctors, nurses and staff at Inova Heart and Vascular Institute, Pence said in a statement.
Former VP Pence also said that he had experienced “symptoms associated with a slow heart rate” over the last two weeks, and underwent a procedure to implant a pacemaker as a result. The procedure went head at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus in Falls Church, Virginia.
Pence said that the “routine surgery was successful” and that he expects to recover fully and return to his normal activities in the coming days.
The former vice president hit the news last week when details of a phone call he made during the January 6 Capitol riot was revealed.
“ From a secure room in the Capitol on Jan. 6, as rioters pummeled police and vandalized the building, Vice President Mike Pence tried to assert control. In an urgent phone call to the acting defense secretary, he issued a startling demand,” the Associated Press reported.
Pence was heard saying “Clear the Capitol” on the phone, as both far-left and far-right activists stormed the building in a violent protest that Democrats quickly portrayed as a Republican “insurrection.”
The former VP made a minute-long call to Christopher Miller, acting defense secretary, describing how the Capitol was not secure and asking for military leaders to quickly secure the building. However, at this point, the protesters had already been allowed to overwhelm the police forces operating in the area, with rioters breaking into the building.
Vice President Mike Pence has been fairly quiet since the inauguration of President Joe Biden, and while he continues to post pro-Trump messages on his social media pages – including defenses of the Trump tax cuts that President Biden plans to withdraw – he has not been seen at the Mar-a-Lago resort where former President Trump now runs his political operations.
