(Presidentialwire.com)- Last Monday the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation announced that all living First Ladies will be serving as Honorary Chairs of the organization. As honorary chairs, the First Ladies will be spearheading the Foundation’s efforts to increase the number of visitors who come to the National Mall in Washington, DC.
The Honorary Chairs will be First Lady Jill Biden and former First Ladies Melania Trump, Michelle Obama, Laura Bush, Hillary Clinton, and Rosalynn Carter.
The Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation is tasked with building a monument on the National Mall that honors the early women’s suffrage movement that lead to the ratification of the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote.
In a tweet last Wednesday, former First Lady Melania Trump said she was honored to be named an Honorary Chair of the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation, to help secure a National Mall monument “of enduring inspiration for women and future female leaders.”
Unsurprisingly, the perpetually angry Resistance was furious that Melania was included with all the other living First Ladies.
And because Melania’s tweet came on the same day her husband, former President Donald Trump was being deposed for the defamation lawsuit brought against him by his rape accuser, writer E. Jean Carroll, many Resistance members gleefully replied to Melania’s tweet by highlighting it.
The law to erect a monument to Women’s Suffrage was signed by former President Trump in December 2020.
At present, there are no monuments or memorials on the National Mall that commemorate women in American history. Fewer than 5 percent of the statues in the Capitol district depict women.
It is expected the Women’s Suffrage Monument will be unveiled in 2027.
