(PresidentialWire.com)- Last week, former President Donald Trump released a statement that, on its face, was probably unwise. In it, Trump suggested that if the problems from the 2020 presidential election aren’t solved, Republicans won’t vote in the 2022 midterms or the 2024 presidential election.
As syndicated radio host Jesse Kelly remarked about the statement, having the most powerful Republican telling his supporters that their votes don’t matter is “the dumbest, most suicidal things I’ve ever seen.”
There are valid reasons to object to Trump making such a reckless statement.
And then there’s Fox News host Juan Williams.
In a well-I-nevery column at The Hill, Williams said that this statement is just one more example of how Donald Trump is killing democracy.
Of course at the heart of Williams’ published tantrum is the fact that Donald Trump maintains that the 2020 election was rigged – something Democrats spent four years saying about the 2016 election. Though, that particular 4-year complaint from Democrats doesn’t seem to trouble Juan in the least.
And naturally, Juan kvetches about the January 6 riot at the Capitol, which he describes as “the murderous assault on the Capitol by his supporters.”
“Murderous assault” in which the only person murdered was a Trump supporter killed by a Capitol police officer. Funny how anti-Trump pundits keep forgetting that part.
It troubles Juan that President Trump believes the real insurrection was what happened on November 3, 2020.
Perhaps if Juan would take a weekend to read his Fox News colleague Mollie Hemingway’s bestselling book Rigged: How the Media, Big Tech and the Democrats Seized Our Elections, he’d have a better understanding of what Trump was trying to convey.
But like every other member of the biased press, Juan Williams believes that even mentioning election fraud or rigging is an “assault on democracy.” Not if it relates to the 2016 election, mind you. Only in relation to 2020.
Williams doesn’t just believe Trump is killing democracy. He also thinks the Republicans in Congress are killing democracy as well. So you can see what this is about. Williams isn’t writing an op-ed; he’s writing a campaign brief on behalf of the Democrats.
The January 6 riot and Trump’s complaints about 2020 are all the Democrats have to run on. They certainly can’t run on their record. And Juan Williams is there to rush into the breach and give them a helping hand.
