Joe Biden Picks Kamala Harris As Running Mate; Not All Democrats Happy

(PresidentialWire.com)- In what ended up being a very anti-climatic announcement, presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has chosen Kamala Harris as his running mate.

The senator from California is the first South Asian and Black American woman to run on the ticket of a major political party.

In an email, Biden wrote on Tuesday:

“I’ve decided that Kamala Harris is the best person to help me take this fight to Donald Trump and Mike Pence and then to lead this nation starting in January 2021.”

Harris becomes the third woman vice presidential candidate. In 2008, Sarah Palin was the Republican pick for the position. In 1984, Geraldine Ferraro was the Democratic pick for the position.

Harris is hoping she doesn’t have the same fate as those two women, who’s tickets both lost.

At 77 years old, Biden has said all along that he is serving as “a bridge” to a newer, younger slate of leaders in the Democratic Party. Harris, at 55 years old, is one of those women.

On Tuesday, Biden personally notified California Representative Karen Bass and Georgian Stacey Abrams that they would not be his pick.

Before this announcement was made, there were rumblings that some major Democratic donors were trying to convince Biden not to select Harris as his running mate. One reason is the former prosecutor attacked Biden pretty hard when she herself was running to be the party’s nominee for president.

Many people within the Democratic Party also seem concerned that Harris has higher aspirations, and will be campaigning to be president herself right from the beginning.

Tom Del Beccaro, who in 2016 ran against Harris for the U.S. Senate seat she currently occupies, wrote a scathing op-ed about her for Fox News. In it, he wrote:

“For Harris, politics is a game of ambition not something of substances. She is not a policy person. Her convictions aren’t with respect to the issues; they are with respect to power and the limelight.

“How else do you explain her savage attacks on Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh and then her statement months later that she ‘believes’ Joe Biden’s accusers yet is still willing to work for him? It’s just politics.

“The problem for America is that this campaign, on the Democrat side, is about (1) a presidential candidate hiding his Senate records because, according to him, he doesn’t want them taken out of context while he campaigns from a basement for president, and (2) a vice-presidential candidate brimming with ambition but who has little substance.

“In an age of tweets, maybe that’s just politics for ya.

“The problem for the country, however, is that Harris could be president based on Biden’s choice decision to choose her as his running mate.

“While I previously wrote in another Fox News Opinion column that, given how divided we are, this election will be close (and that President Trump will be reelected) ‘just politics’ shouldn’t ever be the standard for choosing our leaders, especially in these difficult times.”
