Jamie Foxx to Reveal His ‘Serious Health Scare’ in New Stand-Up Show

Actor and comedian Jamie Foxx said he will describe the health scare that landed him in hospital last year. Foxx has scheduled a series of stand-up comedy events in October and told his Instagram followers he will reveal all during the Atlanta shows. An ad for the events describes them as an “unforgettable” journey “through a serious health scare, filled with humor, heart, and inspiration.”

The star has kept information about his hospitalization last April closely guarded and has refused to answer questions about it. His daughter Corinne fueled speculation when she posted a message to Instagram saying Jamie Foxx had experienced “a medical complication” but was on the road to recovery. She did not specify what the complication was, but Mr. Foxx stayed in the hospital for weeks.

In a clip posted to Twitter, the actor told a group in Phoenix that he endured more than 20 days of memory loss. He explained that he remembers asking a family member for an Advil because he had a headache and woke up almost three weeks later with no knowledge of what had happened. Foxx explained that a doctor told him “something is going on” in his head, but he would not reveal further details, stating, “I don’t want to say on camera.” He did acknowledge receiving a Cortisone shot and thanked his daughter and sister for ensuring he got the appropriate medical help he needed.

In separate discussions, Foxx said he had been “to hell and back.” At the 7th Annual African American Film Critics Association Special Achievement Awards last December, he presented an award and took the opportunity to address the mystery illness. He told the audience that people continually ask him what happened, and he is preparing to open up about it, but added, “I got to do it my way.”

Foxx was midway through filming a Netflix movie with Cameron Diaz when he fell ill. Production was suspended for months but picked up again last September. Rumors suggested that some scenes were filmed with a Jamie Foxx stand-in.
