GOP Candidate Sets New Record While Trying To Turn Governor’s Mansion Red

( the Republicans ramp up their campaign to win the upcoming Nevada gubernatorial race and flip the state Red, a GOP candidate just broke new fundraising records for both parties by a substantial margin.

Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo is one of nine Republican candidates looking to take the party nomination, and if his fundraising is anything to go by, he’s a shoe-in. His campaign announced on Tuesday that since entering the crowded race in late June, 2021, his campaign has secured more than $3.1 million dollars.

The crowded race should come as no surprise given just how narrowly President Joe Biden won the state in 2020. Biden won by only three percentage points, and many election integrity activists and analysts have argued that the state would have gone the other way had it not been for the relaxing of election laws during the COVID pandemic.

Lombardo’s massive fundraising haul has broken records for both parties, bringing in more than any other Republican or Democrat candidate – and even more than any incumbent governor in the state’s history.

In a statement to the press, Lombardo said that he was “honored by the tremendous show of support” for his campaign. He said that incumbent Democratic Governor Steve Sisolak and the radical single-party state rule in Nevada have “failed” the people of his state for too long and that his donation numbers “clearly reflect that Nevadans are ready for something new.”

No kidding.

Nevada is currently considered a competitive state. A combination of President Joe Biden’s rapidly declining approval ratings – dropping to just 33% recently according to a Quinnipiac University poll – and the fact that there is a two-to-one ratio of Democrats switching to Republicans in December, means that Lombardo has a real chance not just of winning the Republican primary but also the gubernatorial race.
