(PresidentialWire.com)- Vice President Kamala Harris’ claim that the U.S.-Mexico border was secure didn’t sit well with MSNBC presenter Chuck Todd.
In an interview with Todd that aired on “Meet the Press” on Sunday mornings, Harris asserted that the immigration system was flawed but that the border was secure, even though, as Todd swiftly noted, two million people were anticipated to cross the border for the first time in history.
As the lengthy conversation ended, noting that they were in Texas, he asked her if she felt the border was secure.
She said she believes there is no doubt that they must carry out the request to Congress that she and Biden made, that they enact a measure to establish a pathway to citizenship.
Then she said the border is safe, but our immigration system needs to be changed, especially during the last four years before we got in.
Todd pushed back, noting that 2 million people will pass this border for the first time.
Harris said, “We have a secure border in that that is a priority for any nation, including ours and our government,” before making a U-turn to try to pin the current predicament on the previous President Donald Trump.
She said there are still numerous issues that they are working to resolve, given the decline over the previous four years.
Harris wrapped up the interview by calling again for a “pathway to citizenship” and saying that this hadn’t been done because Republican leaders in border states were “playing politics” with people’s lives.
“By the way, if you want to talk about bipartisanship, you should talk about an issue that was once a bipartisan issue. Both for Republican senators and even for Republican presidents,” Harris deflected.
The border is not secure by any measure, and you need not look any further than at the party which said it would tear down a border wall if it were erected.
