The airport can be a stressful place for anybody, between the long waits at security and delayed flights, but for one woman in Chicago, a missed flight was just too much for her to handle. In a video that went viral over the weekend, a woman who was dubbed a “Karen” on social media can be seen launching a computer at a member of staff in a fight that broke out in the departure lounge.
The woman appeared to get violent quickly after being told by Frontier Airlines staff that she had missed her flight from Chicago O’Hare Airport. The video shows the irate lady jumping over a luggage scale to shout at the staff, who seemed bewildered by the entire thing. Bystanders quickly tried to get involved and stop the woman from hurting the staff, with another employee putting himself in between the raging woman and staff who were huddling and trying to protect themselves from her.
You’ll see in the clip – which you can watch here – a member of staff pick up a blue bin that is normally used for scanning items in the security area. The angry employee was held back and prevented from throwing the bin at the angry woman.
No matter how hard the staff try, though, the woman simply refuses to calm down. She grabs the computer monitor from the staff desk and slams it down before moving back in front of the counter.
The police eventually intervened, but people who watched the incident unfold in real time said that they “took their time” to get there.
Little else is known about the incident, but we do know that airport fights seem to be all too common these days. In May this year, a dispute erupted at the ticket counter in Baltimore Washington International Airport. The fight involved five men and got so out of hand that those involved became tangled in the barriers used to direct lines of people waiting at the counter. Video footage, recorded at 4:15pm, showed a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt approaching ticket agents with his fists in the air.
The workers didn’t shy away from the man, walking towards him and eventually throwing fists. A statement later issued by Spirit Airlines revealed that the men involved in the fight were not employees of the company but workers who were employed by an outside vendor.
Have you ever gotten this mad at an airport? We certainly haven’t…
