The SEIU Local 500 is a labor union that usually represents workers of universities, colleges, public schools, and nonprofit organizations in the Washington, D.C. and Maryland region. The union announced in a statement that they are “20,000 strong and growing.”
The decision, which was made by the staff, was ultimately supported by the Democratic National Committee in a statement. Which they obviously had to do.
Can you imagine if the DNC came out against the decision? There would be no defending it.
The DNC statement said that the decision by their staff to join a union is a “reaffirmation of solidarity among workers” as well as the key role that unions play in “building the middle class.”
