Democrats Launch Muted Battle On One Of Their Own

(PresidentialWire.com)- While it is expected that the confirmation of Justice Breyer’s replacement will be an easy one compared to the battles we saw with Trump’s SCOTUS nominees, there is still likely to be some media-generated drama focused primarily on centrist Democrat Senators Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema.

But the media’s fretting over Sinema and Manchin is probably overblown. Unless Joe Biden nominates a whack-job, both senators will no doubt vote to confirm his eventual nominee.

One of the leading contenders on Biden’s list to replace Breyer is DC Circuit Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. Jackson was just confirmed last year to the nation’s second-highest court and both Sinema and Manchin, along with three Republicans (Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, and Lindsey Graham) voted to confirm her.

So if she gets the nod for SCOTUS, Ketanji Brown Jackson is a shoo-in.

On Face the Nation this week, Senator Graham indicated that he would support Biden’s pick. Collins, Murkowski, and Mitt Romney will no doubt follow Graham’s lead, so the chance of a solid Republican wall of opposition is already out of the question.

Though, in fairness, Graham was speaking primarily of another one of Biden’s possible choices, US District Judge Michelle Childs. But given that Lindsey Graham supported Ketanji Brown Jackson for the DC Circuit Court, he will no doubt support her for SCOTUS as well.

Graham also dismissed the criticism over Biden’s decision to limit his choice to a black woman. He told CBS’s Martha Brennan that he is in the camp that wants the Supreme Court to “look like America.”

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer wants to move this yet-to-be-named nominee through as quickly as possible. And why shouldn’t he? It isn’t as if 50 Republicans are going to stand in the way.

The only thing that could prevent this nominee from sailing smoothly through the Senate is if Joe Biden does something completely idiotic and nominates a far-Left radical kook.

And who knows? He just might do that. As Barack Obama once famously said about Biden, “never underestimate Joe’s ability to f**k things up.”
