(PresidentialWire.com)- Democrats are concerned over Trump “carryovers” in the Department of Justice, reported Washington Examiner. The House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn from South Carolina alleged that voters from several states have brought up the question whether former-President Donald Trump will be prosecuted.
In an interview with CNN on Monday, Clyburn shared what he has heard from numerous voters over Trump’s prosecution, saying that while he will not focus on his prosecution, he is concerned over those officials who still remain from the previous administration.
“I do have some concerns about what seems to be some reticence coming from the department as to how to ratchet up these investigations,” Clyburn said to CNN anchor John Berman, adding that voters are afraid the department is not moving fast enough “in order to do what is needed to protect this democracy.”
Clyburn reiterated his voters concern saying that he has received a lot of “marching orders” from his constituents.
It appears that same paranoia stoked into them from the 2020 pandemic transformed into the incessant cry about “democracy.”
The charges under question are those regarding the Capitol riot on January 6, when the former-President allegedly attempted to overturn the 2020 election results by either appointing a new slate of electors or delaying the process of ceritifying the results under a thorough investigation was underway. The Justice Department is reportedly prosecuting hundreds of rioters in connection with January 6.
The Justice Department is led under Attorney General Merrick Garland—the same Garland who was nominated as a Supreme Court Justice under former-President Barack Obama, and the same Garland who issued a memo stating that parents who were speaking out against their school board were to be considered “domestic terrorists.”
Garland reportedly said that he and federal prosecutors were watching the January 6 hearings. “I will be sure that I am watching all of it,” he said. “And I can assure you that the January 6 prosecutors are watching all of the hearings as well.”
It’s been almost two years since President Trump has left office and Democrats are consistently talking about the threat to democracy. After the investigation into Trump’s business dealings by New York Attorney General Letitia James fell flat, Democrats continue to investigate January 6 with their House Select Committee, partially led by the notorious Liz Cheney who is dramatically slipping in the polls with a 74% disapproval rating.
