(Presidentialwire.com)- According to a survey by the UK eco-grocery business Modern Milkman, more than 70% of kids between the ages of 7 and 12 now experience worry as a result of climate change.
A report from Euronews states that 1,000 kids in the relevant age range were surveyed between 2010 and 2015. Among other things, it enquired about their opinions on the environment and whether they were concerned about climate change.
71% of respondents said they experience dread and anxiety due to climate change.
One-fourth of children identified the effects of plastic pollution, while more than a quarter (27%) cited harm to animals as a top worry. Nearly one in five kids mentioned being afraid of the sun.
It has never been more crucial to inform people about the steps they can take to protect our world, according to Simon Mellin, the CEO and founder of Modern Milkman. “The results reveal that environmental concerns are having a prominent effect on the youth of today,” he added.
The overwhelming majority of responders (85%) agreed that everyone should take action to combat climate change.
The study comes at a time when significant increases in children’s mental health problems have been documented throughout the western world due to lockdowns and remote learning connected to the epidemic. According to a CDC survey from 2020, 44% of American teenagers said they experienced “chronic feelings of melancholy or pessimism.”
20% of respondents said they had thought about suicide, and 9% said they had really tried to harm themselves.
In a more recent U.K. poll, 54% of girls between the ages of 16 and 17 said they had endured “elevated psychological anguish” in the previous 12 months.
Numerous studies have discovered that in recent years, children have been experiencing an increasing amount of anxiety connected to climate change, often known as “eco-anxiety.” The problem is getting worse as schools emphasize the frequent dour future of the planet.
