Boston Mayor Admits REFUSING To Cooperate With ICE Over Deportations

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has doubled down on her city’s sanctuary status, insisting Boston will not assist ICE with deportations unless they provide judicial warrants – and risking her own arrest in the process. Don’t you think it’s time these Mayors are held accountable for breaking the law?

At a glance:

• Mayor Michelle Wu stated Boston police won’t participate in mass deportations and that ICE hasn’t contacted local authorities

• Wu is releasing individuals wanted by ICE because the federal agency “chooses not to get warrants”

• Tom Homan, Trump’s “Border Czar,” has threatened to “bring hell” to Boston over its sanctuary policies

• Republican lawmakers have suggested possible prosecution of sanctuary city officials who refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement

• The city spent $650,000 on legal assistance for Wu’s congressional hearing preparation

Wu Defends Sanctuary City Status

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has made it clear her administration will not assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with deportations unless the agency obtains proper judicial warrants – despite federal law saying she must. During a recent appearance on Boston Public Radio, Wu received a standing ovation from the liberal audience while defending her city’s non-cooperation policies.

Wu’s defiance comes after her congressional testimony where she clashed with Republican lawmakers over Boston’s sanctuary status. The Democrat Mayor spent a staggering $650,000 of taxpayer money on legal assistance to prepare for the hearing.

Wu openly admitted during the radio appearance that Boston is releasing illegal immigrants who are wanted by ICE.

“ICE is choosing not to go and get these criminal warrants,” Wu declared, effectively blaming federal authorities for not jumping through her city’s politically-motivated hoops.

That’s not how this works!

Republicans Fight Back Against Sanctuary Cities

Republican lawmakers have strongly criticized Wu and other Democratic Mayors for policies they argue “only create sanctuary for criminals.” During recent congressional hearings, GOP representatives highlighted violent crimes committed by illegal immigrants who were protected by sanctuary policies.

Rep. James Comer, Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, blasted sanctuary cities for undermining the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement efforts. Some Republicans have even suggested possible prosecution for officials who refuse to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.

Tom Homan, who served as Acting ICE Director under President Trump and has been tapped to lead border security in a second Trump administration, has targeted Wu specifically. Homan threatened to “bring hell” to Boston over its refusal to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement.

Meanwhile, Wu claims Boston cooperates with ICE on criminal issues but refuses to honor administrative detainers issued by the agency. This distinction allows the city to release illegal immigrants wanted by federal authorities if ICE hasn’t obtained a judicial warrant.

ICE officials have repeatedly stated that these sanctuary policies strain federal resources and endanger their agents. When local jurisdictions refuse to hold illegal immigrants in custody, ICE must deploy additional personnel to track down and apprehend these individuals in communities.

Wu’s stance contradicts the federal government’s authority over immigration enforcement. During her radio appearance, Wu effectively admitted that Boston is releasing potentially dangerous individuals rather than cooperating with federal immigration authorities. That sounds like a crime to us…
