AOC Doubles Down On Defunding Police

( Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez isn’t letting rising crime in Democrat-run cities get in the way of her mission to Defund the Police.

Rather than take seriously the growing concern over the skyrocketing murder rates and increased violent crime, Ocasio-Cortez instead is claiming those genuine concerns are nothing but hysteria.

Appearing with fellow New York Congressman Jamaal Bowman, Ocasio-Cortez claimed that it is the media that is perpetrating “this idea” that violent crime is surging — for no other reason than to gin up hysteria.

According to Ocasio-Cortez, the crime stats that reveal staggering increases in the percentages of shootings and homicides are lacking “context.”

After a dismissive caveat acknowledging that crime is always bad, Ocasio-Cortez explained that she doesn’t want the use of these crime stats to drive hysteria. Instead, she said, the stats must be viewed in context “so that we can make responsible decisions about what to allocate in that context.”

When Ocasio-Cortez refers to “allocate” or “reallocate,” she is talking about defunding police or moving police funding to other programs.

What troubles Ocasio-Cortez isn’t the rise in crime itself so much as what kind of negative impact the rise in crime will have on her hopes of “reimagining” or defunding local police departments.

Ocasio-Cortez went on to say she agrees with Bowman that “we need to reallocate resources away” from police departments. Then she slammed the media whom she claims perpetrate the “idea of crime wave, crime wave, crime wave, right?”

In a nutshell, with radical progressive policies bearing fruit – namely a drastic spike in violent crime – Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t want to acknowledge that her own progressive policies are to blame. So she pretends it’s all “hysteria” and hype.

Which is rather ironic.

After all, this is the woman who claims the earth itself with burn to a crisp in less than ten years if we don’t pass her ridiculous Green New Deal. And she is dismissing actual, documented increases in crime as being nothing but “hysteria.”
